The long standing rumor in the wake of the release of “Red Dead Redemption II” has been that developer Rockstar Games is first focusing on a “Bully” sequel before it gets around to the inevitable “Grand Theft Auto VI”.
Kotaku now offers an update on what’s going on, indicating that GTA VI could very well be their next game, not “Bully 2,” but the project is still very much in “early development” and not coming anytime soon as some recent reports have speculated.
Part of the reason for that is major behind-the-scenes restructuring issues with Rockstar trying to cut back on ‘crunch’ and offer more flexible schedules for developers, regular updates and more training. Kotaku journalist Jason Schreier says:
“The next GTA is still a ways away, so it’ll be a while before we see whether the company’s attempts to mitigate crunch are really successful, but in the last year Rockstar has made several quality-of-life improvements and replaced managers that staff described as toxic.”
The news suggests the title is likely to be a PS5, Xbox Series X and PC only release as it probably won’t arrive until 2022 at the earliest – especially with COVID-19 causing significant delays in the video game industry.
