The next full number entry in the “Grand Theft Auto” series, GTA VI, won’t release until at least 2024 or 2025.

That’s the verdict from both “Battlefield” insider Tom Henderson last week, and from both Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier and VGC more recently with all citing their own inside sources who add that Rockstar doesn’t want to say a date until it knows it can hit it.

The long wait is said to be due to several reasons. One is that Rockstar wants a larger install base for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as the new title will be exclusive to them and PC and not the older PS4 & Xbox One.

Another is a push within developer Rockstar Games to improve staff welfare and avoid the crunch that has plagued the company over past releases and were reported on fairly publicly in the wake of the release of “Red Dead Redemption II” (Schreier himself involved in said reporting).

This sixth full number GTA is expected to be set in the Miami-esque Vice City in the modern-day (not 80s as previously rumored) with a map that will grow and change over the time which should also cut crunch.

Like the fifth game, it’s expected to have multiple protagonists with one being a female hacker which will tie into the game’s cryptocurrency-based storylines.

The report comes as “Grand Theft Auto 5,” first released back in 2013, will launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 11th. That game has sold 140 million copies to date.
