“Gran Turismo” Film First Look Featurette

Sony Pictures

A featurette has been released for the upcoming film adaptation of Playstation’s highly successful “Gran Turismo” video game franchise which officially wrapped filming just before Christmas in Hungary.

Actors Archie Madekwe, David Harbour and Orlando Bloom appear in the clip touting the fast-racing action film which only began shooting in late October and so made it through production quite fast. The clip also shows off plenty of racing acting filmed using drones allowing for some rather extreme angles and high velocity filming not unlike a good portion of Michael Bay’s “Ambulance” last year.

Neill Blomkamp directs the project which is an aspirational drama inspired by a true story. Madekwe plays a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills were good enough that he won a series of competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.

Harbour plays his mentor, Djimon Hounsou and Geri Halliwell-Horner as his parents, Daniel Puig is his brother, Josha Stradowski plays a rival driver, Thomas Kretschmann is that rival’s father, and Bloom plays a motorsport marketing executive who sounds like the film’s equivalent of an antagonist.

The racing simulator franchise is having its 25th anniversary this year and has sold over 90 million copies across eight games for five different PlayStation consoles. The most recent game, “Gran Turismo 7,” hit stores last year.

The “Gran Turismo” movie is scheduled to reach the finish line at cinemas on August 11th 2023. The clip first premiered at the CES convention in Las Vegas where all the latest consumer tech is being shown off.
