The iconic and often busy Sydney Harbour Bridge was shut down for seven hours this morning for the filming of the Ryan Gosling-led action thriller “The Fall Guy” based on the 1980s TV series.
The production also closed the nearby Cahill Expressway for the shoot, which involved Gosling and his stunt double filming a scene where his character and another man are engaged in a fight in a skip bin hanging off the back of a truck.
The vehicle was seen racing across the bridge and generating a bunch of sparks in the process. Helicopters, drones and personnel galore were out in force to film the scene. The Sydney Harbour Tunnel remained open, and trains continued to operate across the bridge throughout the shoot.
Gosling and his wife Eva Mendes have been in Sydney since October, when Gosling began shooting the project. Previously there were shutdowns in Elizabeth Street, Circular Quay and Martin Place for filming on the movie.
Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke and Stephanie Hsu co-star in the film being helmed by David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Drew Pearce penned the script, which focuses on a battered and past-his-prime stuntman (Gosling) who finds himself back in a movie with the star for whom he doubled long ago and who replaced him. The wrinkle, however, is that the star (Taylor-Johnson) has gone missing.
Check out footage of the stunt from the 1:29 mark below. Mendes previously spoke with local press about their encounter with a huntsman spider which she says startled the normally often unflappable Gosling.
