“Good Doctor” Renewed, “Dear Edward” Axed

“The Good Doctor” has been renewed for a seventh season at ABC, the word coming in just ahead of the medical drama’s sixth season finale.

Freddie Highmore leads the cast as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young autistic surgeon who has savant syndrome at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Hill Harper, Richard Schiff, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee and Christina Chang co-star.

The series ties with the “Quantum Leap” reboot as the top-rated entertainment series in the 10pm Monday slot this season among adults 18-49. It averages a 0.6 rating and 6 million viewers.

Meanwhile Apple has canceled its Jason Katims-produced drama seires “Dear Edward” which deals with the lone survivor of a plane crash.

It marks one of the very few scripted series not intended to be a closed-ended single season that has become a one-and-done at Apple – alongside “Little Voice” and “Shantaram”. The series launched with three episodes in February and wrapped in March with mixed reviews from audience and critics.

Based on the book by Ann Napolitano, the story revolves around a young boy (Colin O’Brien) who was the lone survivor of a plane crash. Connie Britton,Taylor Schilling, Amy Forsyth, Carter Hudson, and Anna Uzele co-starred.
