Michel Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) has come aboard to direct a film adaptation of Jonathan Lethem’s 1997 novel “As She Climbed Across the Table” at Amazon Studios and Chernin Entertainment.
Joe Penhall, the English playwright and creator of Netflix’s “Mindhunters,” will write the script for the film which revolves around a love triangle that consists of a man, a woman, and a black hole.
In the story Alice and her colleagues have created a black hole that they name Lack, a quantum singularity that is a very selective about what it sucks into its void – accepting some objects, rejecting others.
To Alice, this selectivity translates into an irresistible personality. To Phillip, her ex-boyfriend, the void becomes a rival lover – spurring on feeling of intense jealousy as he embarks on a nigh-impossible, and multi-universal, quest to win her back.
