Production is officially underway in Queensland, Australia on the “Godzilla vs. Kong” sequel following the box office success of the Adam Wingard-directed first film back in March last year.
Even in a year with box-office heavily suppressed by the pandemic, and despite having a simultaneous HBO Max release, the film still grossed $470 million globally against a budget of $155-200 million.
The as-yet-untitled follow-up marks the fifth official feature in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ ‘Monsterverse’ and sees Wingard return to the director’s chair.
In the new one, the beasts team up against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.
Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle return from prior entries, while Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, Alex Ferns, and Rachel House join the cast. Terry Rosario returns to pen the script with Jeremy Slater and Simon Barrett.
The “Godzilla vs. Kong” sequel is currently targeting a theatrical release date of March 15th 2024.
