Godfather 4k Remaster Comes To Cinemas
Paramount Pictures

Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has revealed that a 4K remaster of his iconic gangster drama “The Godfather” is coming to cinemas in 2022.

Coppola revealed the news as part of the Paramount panel at CCXP Worlds 2021. Still considered one of the greatest movies ever made, the film will return to theaters for its 50th anniversary.

It also follows on the heels of 2020’s release of “Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone,” a recut of “The Godfather: Part III” which scored a limited theatrical run.

The hope was Paramount would release that recut on disc, but never did – saying it will be available in 2022 as part of a new Blu-Ray boxset containing 4K UHD versions of the entire trilogy. This seems to confirm that is indeed coming.

Coppola has been recutting his various films of late from that “Godfather: Part III” redux to the acclaimed “Apocalypse Now: Final Cut” and his restored cut of “The Cotton Club”.

However, he confirmed on the panel that the upcoming “The Godfather” re-release will have no edits made to it.
