Game developer Santa Monica Studios has announced that they have sold approximately 11 million copies of the PlayStation-exclusive “God of War Ragnarök” in the space of three months.
Launched to much acclaim on November 9th on PS5 and PS4, Sony claimed 5.1 million copies of the game were sold in its debut week, making it the fastest-selling first-party title in PlayStation history.
2018’s “God of War” reboot was one of the biggest titles ever released exclusively for PlayStation with around 23 million in sales to date (90% of which were on console).
To put the sequel’s sales into perspective, it took the original over a year to reach the 10 million copies sold mark.
In a statement released Wednesday alongside the sales figures, the company says: “We’re incredibly humbled that God of War Ragnarök has officially sold through 11 million copies. None of this would be possible without the support of our fans, so thank you for coming on this journey with us!”
Amazon and Sony are currently working on a “God of War” TV series which will be based on the new games.
