The Golden Globe Awards have announced they will introduce two new categories to the upcoming January broadcast.

One is the Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Theatrical titles must have grossed at least $100 million domestically and $150 million worldwide during release to qualify.

Streaming films with commensurate viewership will be considered based on data from “recognized industry sources”. The films that qualify must also deliver “creative excellence”.

The aim is to honor hit movies with global reach in either box office or streaming views.

Films released after November 22nd until the end of the year may qualify based on projected box office performance and/or streaming views from trusted industry sources.

Up to eight films will be eligible for that prize and can also still compete for the two “Best Motion Picture” categories.

The second award is for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, acknowledging the best performance in a stand-up comedy special.

Comedy specials airing on broadcast, basic and premium cable, streaming and pay-per-view cable will considered – individual social media accounts will not be eligible. Up to six nominees can qualify.

The next Golden Globes telecast will air on January 7th.
