Hot off her award-winning performance as Margaret Thatcher in “The Crown,” Gillian Anderson has joined the second season of Hulu’s acclaimed period comedy-drama “The Great”.
Anderson has officially signed on for a guest-starring role in two episodes of the new run of the Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult-led series about the rise of 18th Century Russian ruler Catherine the Great.
Anderson will play the role of Catherine’s mother Joanna, a glamorous socialite from Germany and a ‘maestro of marriage’. It soon becomes clear she has sinister intentions to save her family’s reputation.
Anderson will next be seen in the third season of Netflix’s “Sex Education” and in Showtime’s anthology series “The First Lady”.
