Giancarlo Esposito has been set to star in the just greenlit drama series “The Driver,” a remake of the British series of the same name, for AMC.
The six-episode first season follows a taxi driver (Esposito) whose life is turned upside down when he agrees to chauffer a New Orleans-based Zimbabwean gangster involved in human trafficking.
The original BBC1 series aired in 2014 and starred the likes of David Morrissey and Colm Meaney. Theo Travers serves as executive producer and showrunner of the U.S. take while Esposito, Danny Brocklehurst and Sunu Gonera will all executive produce with Gonera helming the pilot.
Josh Kesselman, Danny Sherman, Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson also executive produce. “The Driver” is slated to debut on AMC and AMC Plus in 2023.
