The “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” sequel is currently filming in New York, and new set photos have revealed that one of the original 1984’s supporting characters will be returning in the movie.
The Daily Mail posted photos from the set which show actor William Atherton (“Die Hard,” “Real Genius”) in scenes alongside Ernie Hudson and Paul Rudd.
Atherton portrayed Walter Peck, an inspector for the Environmental Protection Agency who tries to stop the Ghostbusters in the original film and is responsible for the shutdown of the group’s ghost containment system – leading to a bunch of ghosts being freed and causing havoc across New York.
The new film sees the return of Rudd’s Gary Grooberson from ‘Afterlife’ alongside the Spengler family members played by Carrie Coon and Mckenna Grace. Joining them is Hudson who is known for playing Winston Zeddemore – one of the four original members of the team.
The “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” sequel has the working title of “Firehouse” and is still scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 20th this year. Gil Kenan directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman.
The 2021 film grossed over $200 million at the box office.
