“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” May Get A Sequel?

Josh Gad’s Reunited Apart web series recently reunited much of the original “Ghostbusters” cast along with director Jason Reitman who helmed the upcoming “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” in which the actors have cameos.

Originally slated for this Summer, the film has been delayed until March next year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Reitman says the setback is actually beneficial as it has allowed him to spend more time working on the film which he finds “extraordinarily valuable”.

He goes on to say: “We have a lot of time now. I’ve been spending my days editing Ghostbusters, so that’s where I’ve been.” More interesting though is that he says he’s already started developing a potential next installment:

“I can’t tell you anything, but we are working on another installment. We have a little bit more time, and look, as a director, I’ve never had this opportunity to actually take a pause and breathe and look at the movie again.”

As has been pointed out since though, the question was asked in a way that indicates the ‘another installment’ he’s referring to is actually ‘Afterlife’ and not another follow-up. “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” puts the focus on a new family with single mom Callie (Carrie Coon) and her two kids, Trevor and Phoebe (Finn Wolfhard & Mckenna Grace) who move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma.

Soon things get weird – unexplained quakes shake the town, an old mine nearby bears the name of Ivo Shandor, and soon with the help of a local teacher (Paul Rudd) they make the connection between the current weirdness and the events of three decades before.
