Gerwig To Direct Two New “Narnia” Films

“Lady Bird,” “Little Women” and the upcoming “Barbie” movie director Greta Gerwig is spearheading a new Netflix franchise of movies based on C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” book series.

According to The New Yorker, Gerwig has set a deal that will see her write and direct at least two movies based on the books, but it’s not yet clear which books.

It’s also uncertain if this will be a continuation of the three prior films which began with 2005’s Disney epic “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” followed by 2008’s “Prince Caspian” and 2010’s “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”.

An adaptation of the ‘Dawn Treader’ follow-up “The Silver Chair” has long been rumored but never confirmed. Netflix took over the franchise in 2018 when it announced plans to team up with The C.S. Lewis Company in a multi-year deal to produce series and movies based on the books.

A year later, “Coco” co-writer Matthew Alrich boarded the franchise as a ‘creative architect’ to oversee all development moving forward.

Gerwig was first link back in November last year by What’s on Netflix but has been occupied with everything “Barbie” for some time.
