Gerard Butler has been set to play a sniper who must stop a major threat to the planet’s most-watched football/soccer event.
The story begins when his character receives an anonymous threat over the radio and must race against a ticking clock in order to save his family and 70,000 fans at the biggest sporting event on the globe – the World Cup.
The Scottish action star appears in the new action thriller, which has been set up at Thunder Road and aims to begin production in early 2027.
Aaron Benjamin (“She Seems Nice,” “Maverick”) penned the script while Butler, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Alan Siegel, and Steve Klinsky produce the film which is said to be in the $70-80 million range.
A director is expected to be attached shortly, and Black Bear is launching sales at the upcoming Cannes market.
Butler is coming off the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” and is already filming its sequel. He was also recently in “Greenland 2: Migration” and is filming the S. Craig Zahler-penned “Empire City”.
