An animated series based on “The Garbage Pail Kids” Topps trading card line and 1980s Saturday morning cartoon, is reportedly still alive.

Back in May 2021 came news that Max was planning an adaptation of the nearly forty-year-old property which was a parody of the then-popular “Cabbage Patch Kids” dolls.

The Garbage Pail Kids cards were laced with gross-out humor though at the time it was stressed the show would be family-friendly.

Additionally, recent “Halloween” and “The Exorcist: Believer” filmmaker David Gordon Green was developing the series with Danny McBride (“The Righteous Gemstones”) and Josh Bycel (“Solar Opposites”).

Out promoting that new “Exorcist” film with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Green reveals that they are still trying to do the adaptation:

“We’re working on that and we’ve got some pretty cool ways we can make a naughty animated show, we’ll see if they’ll have us on that one.”

Sadly Green didn’t an update on how far into development the series is, but the “naughty animated show” comment suggests a potential change of tone.
