Gal Gadot Reflects On “Snow White” Failure

Disney

After much controversy, discussion over both changes to canon and reports of reshoots, and a strained press tour, Disney’s live-action “Snow White” finally made it to cinemas earlier this year.

The results were as expected – reviews were mostly mixed with a lot of praise for Rachel Zegler’s take on Snow White, but not so much for Gal Gadot’s evil Queen. The film was a major box-office bomb, taking in just $205.7 million worldwide off a budget of $240-270 million.

Now, Gadot has discussed the film’s failure for the first time in a new interview – at the same time shooting down reports of a strained relationship with Zegler.

Gadot appeared on the Israeli interview show The A Talks (via THR) on Thursday, a series similar to Australian series “The Assembly” or French series “Les Rencontres du Papotin” which sees a group of journalists on the autism spectrum conducting a no-holds-barred group interview with well-known personalities.

Gadot said she really enjoyed filming the movie, but then world events and geopolitics came into play which impacted the publicity of the movie:

“Working alongside Rachel Zegler. We laughed and we talked, we had fun. I was positive the movie was going to be a huge hit. And then Oct. 7 happened, and what happened all over in different industries, not just Hollywood, there was a lot of pressure put on celebrities, actors, creators to post against Israel. And it happened.

I can always explain and try to give people in the world context about the situation and the reality in Israel, and I always do that. But at the end, people make up their own minds. And I was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that and that it didn’t do well at the box office. But it is what it is, you win some, you lose some.”

Gadot recently wrapped filming the action thriller “The Runner” in the U.K. and was asked straight up if she thinks she’s a good actress to which she said: “I think I’m solid, I’m alright” and adds her biggest strength is that she’s a hard worker.

“Snow White” is currently available to stream on the Disney+ service.
