One of Disney’s upcoming live-action remakes is a new incarnation of its very first animated feature – 1937’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.
In this new take, Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”) plays the young woman opposite “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. In addition, Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson are co-writing the script with Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) directing.
The project, originally slated to go into production in early March 2020, finally got underway two years later, with Gadot filming her scenes back in April last year.
Gadot is currently out doing promotion for the release of “Heart of Stone” on Netflix and tells GQ she had to audition for the role because they needed to make sure she could sing:
“It was the first time I had to kind of audition for a project in a while. They needed to make sure I can sing because this is a musical. So, for a month, I was working on the song, and then I auditioned, and we filmed the song, and I got the part, and it was very exciting.”
Gadot added that she enjoyed filming the fantasy film very much, explaining to the magazine:
“It was so much to shoot because it’s so different from anything I’ve ever done. It’s so delicious and delightful, and I could really go big and theatrical.”
The comments come as scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting (via World of Reel) that a related project is already in the works with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand writing the script.
That project is reportedly told from Prince Charming’s point of view, with the man described as a ‘bumbling idiot’. It will be separate from the “Snow White” live-action film, which reportedly will not feature a Prince Charming.
The live-action “Snow White” is targeting a release sometime next year.
