Gadot, Gunn Developing “Wonder Woman 3”

Warner Bros. Pictures

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe is, for the most part, going to be a straight reboot when it kicks off with “Superman: Legacy”, ushering in a new wave of heroes.

We already have a new Superman in David Corenswet, and we know Gunn is going to cast someone new for Batman, but what of the other Justice League members?

One of the big questions lingers over Gal Gadot and her role as Wonder Woman. First introduced in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Gadot has played the role multiple times on screen with the highlight being her solo 2017 “Wonder Woman” film which remains the best-reviewed DC film adaptation since Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The 2020 sequel, however, was widely panned. More recently, Gadot has appeared as the character in cameos in both “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and “The Flash” this year.

Gadot and director Patty Jenkins were at work on a third “Wonder Woman” before Gunn and Safran took over DC late last year. After that, Jenkins exited the project leaving its status and Gadot’s involvement unclear.

Speaking to ComicBook.com regarding Netflix’s upcoming action thriller “Heart of Stone,” Gadot explained where things stand:

“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

Though the interview was just published, it was conducted back in June, prior to the actor’s strike. At that time, Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan had only just been cast as Superman and Lois Lane. Talking about that hiring, Gadot said:

“I saw that they were testing, doing different screen tests, but I don’t know who got it, but it seemed like everyone was super legit and talented and, like, great. So I’m happy for them. It’s such a huge take-on, and it’s such an exciting beginning to any actor, and I wish whoever it’s going to be the best of luck and enjoy the ride.”

No third “Wonder Woman” film was mentioned in Gunn and Safran’s initial slate of new DC movies. What did make the list were plans for the Max series “Paradise Lost”, set on the island of Themiscyra. Gunn has also indicated he’d like to develop a “Wonder Woman” animated series.
