Gabriel LaBelle (“The Predator,” Showtime’s “American Gigolo”) is in negotiations to play the lead in Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s coming-of-age movie (rumored to be titled “The Fabelmans”) inspired by his own formative years in Arizona.
Paul Dano and Michelle Williams are set to play the boy’s parents, while Seth Rogen will co-star as a character modelled after Spielberg’s favorite uncle.
LaBelle will play Spielberg as a teenager, though another actor will play the character as a young boy. Spielberg is also casting several young actors to play his various friends over the years.
Spielberg himself is co-writing the script with Tony Kushner. Both will produce along with Kristie Macosko Krieger for Amblin Partners. Filming aims to begin in July.
