Developer Maple Powered Games and publisher Freedom Games have released the trailer for “G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra,” a new video game based on the franchise.
The title boasts a look akin to the retro co-op arcade beat ’em up style that we saw relatively recently in the acclaimed “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge” game.
In the game, franchise favorite characters like Duke, Scarlett, and Snake Eyes go on a journey where the stakes are higher and the weapons are bigger.
You must thwart the conniving Cobra Commander in battles set at iconic locales like Cobra Island and the Pit. The game boasts a story or Arcade mode playable either alone or with a squad via couch co-op.
The game combines pixel art, cartoon cutscenes, and music from Tee Lopes and Crush 40 lead vocalist Johnny Gioeli. Kerry Vandenberg, co-founder of Maple Powered Games says in a press release:
“G.I. Joe is an absolute classic franchise with one of the best fanbases. Working on this game is a dream come true and it’s been a blast creating the game I’ve always wanted to see for G.I. Joe. We’re honored to give G.I. Joe fans the video game they deserve with the most authentic experience possible.”
“G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra” is targeting a Q1 2024 release for the Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux.
