FX Developing “Very Young Frankenstein” Pilot

FX is reportedly developing a comedy TV series titled “Very Young Frankenstein”. Disney’s 20th Television is backing the project.

Inspired by Mel Brooks’ 1974 comedy classic “Young Frankenstein,” Brooks himself is among the executive producers on the project which hails from multiple alum behind FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” and HBO’s “Our Flag Means Death” shows.

That includes Taika Waititi, Garrett Basch and Stefani Robinson, with the latter serving as showrunner if the series gets the go-ahead. Robinson has a long history at FX, where they’ve worked as a writer/producer on series like “Atlanta,” “Fargo”, and more recently “Adults”.

Michael Gruskoff, who produced the original 1974 “Young Frankenstein” film, will also executive produce.

The original film remains one of Brooks’ signature works, a parody of/homage to classic monster movies. Gene Wilder, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Kenneth Mars, Teri Garr and Peter Boyle starred.

Specifics of the new version are under wraps, but it marks the second new project based on a famed Brooks work to be announced this month – the other being the “Spaceballs” sequel, which is already casting up.
