Visual effects work on George Miller’s highly anticipated “Mad Max Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa” will be led from a new full-service VFX studio facility being built by DNEG in Sydney, Australia.
DNEG Sydney will be located in Pyrmont and is slated to open in early 2023 with a total capacity of up to 500 seats. They will take the lead on complex VFX projects for film and episodic projects and will also be home to a new studio for DNEG Animation (“Entergalactic”).
Spending on post, digital and visual effects work by foreign titles in Australia hit a new record of $226 million U.S. dollars in 2021-22. Andrew Jackson (“Tenet,” “Oppenheimer”) will serve as creative director for Sydney.
“Furiosa” is said to be an original, standalone action adventure revealing the origins of characters from “Mad Max: Fury Road”. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
The film is expected to premiere in 2024.
