Antoine Fuqua (“Southpaw,” “The Equalizer”) will both direct and produce a new film adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”.
Fuqua is joining forces with producers Stephen C. Byrd and Alia Jones-Harvey who backed a 2008 revival of the show – the first all-African American production on Broadway and a production that had a sold-out 19-week run. Terrence Howard, Anika Noni Rose, Phylicia Rashad and James Earl Jones starred.
The original play centers on Brick, a former athlete turned alcoholic, his sexually frustrated wife Maggie and Big Daddy, the ailing and wealthy family patriarch.
The film will “combine elements of the play with new storylines and weave them together to bring the production to the big screen.” Fuqua is next directing the slave drama “Emancipation”.
