Full Trailer: Sky’s “Amadeus” Mini-Series

Sky has released the full-length trailer for the new limited series take on Peter Shaffer’s award-winning 1979 stage play “Amadeus”.

Rising British actor/filmmaker Will Sharpe (“The White Lotus”) plays Mozart opposite acting veteran Paul Bettany as Salieri in this reimagining which hails from “Black Doves” and “Giri/Haji” creator/writer Joe Barton.

The story will once again explore the mythic rivalry in 18th-century Vienna between manic prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Sharpe) and pious court composer Antonio Salieri (Bettany), along with the involvement of the fiery Constanze Weber (Gabrielle Creevy).

Salieri’s envy turns vengeful as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position in the establishment. Barton wrote the series with Julian Farino while Alice Seabright directs the episodes.

John Griffin, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright executive produce the series, which was shot last Spring in Hungary.

It comes nearly forty years after filmmaker Milos Forman adapted the play into the highly acclaimed 1984 feature, which swept the Oscars. One change with this take, as seen in the trailers is that it appears Mozart is more aware of Salieri’s machinations.

The new “Amadeus” will launch on Sky in the UK on December 21st.
