It’s official, sequels to some of Disney’s biggest animated films are on the way – a third “Frozen” and second “Zootopia” are officially in development at Disney Animation whilst Pixar is at work on “Toy Story 5”.

Walt Disney Corporation CEO Bob Iger announced the films during the company’s Q1 2023 earnings call on Wednesday. He said: “Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, ‘Toy Story,’ ‘Frozen’ and ‘Zootopia’.”

He goes on to say: “We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivalled brands and franchises.”

No further information about the films was forthcoming, most notably what creative talent is attached to any of the projects. “Frozen 3” will follow the 2013 original and 2019 sequel which have both been massive hits for the studio.

“Zootopia 2” will follow up the well-regarded 2016 film, while “Toy Story 5” follows on from 2019’s fourth entry in the long-running Pixar franchise.

Iger also announced that an “Avatar” Experience will be coming to Disneyland in Anaheim.

The reveals come as Iger says the studio plans to lay off 7,000 employees and pull back its content spending in the near future by around $3 billion in an effort to cut costs. A further $2.5 billion in operating cost savings is also being targeted.
