Freddy Miyares Joins HBO’s “DMZ” Series

“When They See Us” star Freddy Miyares will re-team with his director Ava DuVernay for HBO’s upcoming adaptation of the comic book series “DMZ”.

The story is set in a near-future where an American civil war has left Manhattan a demilitarized zone (hence the title) that is isolated from the rest of the world and is now effectively a lawless island.

Rosario Dawson stars as a female medic who is desperately searching for her lost son in the DMZ while contending with gangs, militias, and warlords all the while saving lives along the way. Benjamin Bratt co-stars as Parco Delgado, the leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the DMZ.

Miyares will play Skel, a triggerman for Delgado’s gang who is also a talented graffiti artist and has a passion for art – his only tie to his humanity in this brutal world.

Filming on the pilot is scheduled to begin shortly. Robert Patino (“Westworld,” “Sons of Anarchy”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. DuVernay is set to direct and executive produce as well.
