“Happy Death Day” and “Freaky” director Christopher Landon is set to take over as director on the seventh “Scream” film at Paramount Pictures.
Landon replaces the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who were behind the fifth film revival in 2022 and “Scream VI” earlier this year.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett reportedly stepped back to focus on an original horror movie at Universal, a project currently impacted by the actor’s strike. The pair, and the group’s third member Chad Villella, will executive produce “Scream VII”.
The recent films scored $137.7 million and $168.9 million worldwide at the box-office, introducing several fresher faces to the franchise, including Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Mason Gooding.
“Scream VII” has yet to be officially announced by the studio, and the actors involved reportedly do not have deals for a new instalment but are expected to return once the strikes are settled.
James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick wrote the scripts for the two recent movies, but it’s not clear if they’ll return as yet. Landon is also an established screenwriter who has written numerous films, including some of his own directorial efforts, along with co-writing numerous “Paranormal Activity” films.
