Frankie Shaw To Handle HBO’s “Wifey”

“SMILF” creator Frankie Shaw will co-write, executive produce, and direct the first episode of a limited series adaptation of Judy Blume’s 1978 novel “Wifey” for HBO.

The story follows one life-changing summer of Sandy Pressman, a disillusioned New Jersey housewife whose predictable life and sexual dissatisfaction compels her to turn her sexual fantasies into a reality by pursuing an affair with an old boyfriend among others, only to find out that her husband is also sleeping with other people.

The deal comes just under a year since Showtime cancelled “SMILF” amidst allegations of inappropriate on-set behavior, though an internal investigation cleared her of any wrongdoing.

Shaw is also set to write and direct the feature “Ultraluminous” which will be produced by Steven Soderbergh.
