“Hunger Games” sequel director Francis Lawrence is developing a biopic about the Long Beach-based 1990s band Sublime for Sony’s 3000 Pictures label.
Blending reggae, punk, ska and hip-hop, the group delivered such hits as “What I Got,” “Wrong Way,” “Santeria” and “Doin’ Time”. To this day their sound remains emblematic of 1990s SoCal beach culture.
Sadly lead singer Bradley Nowell died of an overdose in 1996, two months before their third and most successful album was released which went five times platinum.
Chris Mundy (“Ozark”) will pen the script while Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, David Ready, Dave Kaplan and Peter Paterno will produce.
