“Fortnite” Pulls “Peacemaker” Emote Controversy

HBO Max

Epic Games has disabled a dance move in its recent “Fortnite” collaboration with HBO Max’s “Peacemaker” series – and it’s all to do with the most recent episode of the show.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR PEACEMAKER EPISODE 2×6

Last Thursday’s episode gave away a big reveal in regards to the alternate world of the new season – namely that this Earth-X is one where the Nazis won World War II and the world is all white people.

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the show’s opening credits hint at this via John Cena’s dance moves with one specific move in which he forms an ‘H’ with his hands being interpreted as an allusion to a swastika.

Unfortunately, the Peacemaker skin in the “Fortnite” game has a ‘Peaceful Hips Emote’ dance move, added earlier this month, which includes the offending move. The emote has been removed with Epic Games stating on social media:

“We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”

Part of the issue is that Gunn has been notably secretive about episodes 6-8 of this season of “Peacemaker” which weren’t screened ahead of time for anyone outside of close friends in order to maintain the season’s secrecy. Gunn has yet to comment on the matter.
