Former Bond Producer Talks Villeneuve Hire

EON, MGM, Sony Pictures

Former James Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has given high praise for the selection of filmmaker Denis Villeneuve to helm the next Bond film, the first official 007 movie to be produced outside of her purview.

Though she ceded creative control to Amazon MGM Studios back in February, she still remains a co-owner of the 007 franchise and thus remains interested in what’s going on.

She recently appeared on the Kermode on Film podcast and gave her first comment about Villeneuve’s recent hire, saying: “He’s a fantastic filmmaker, I’m thrilled he’s going to be doing it.”

Amy Pascal and David Heyman are serving as producers on the new movie, taking over the positions Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have held for many years. Asked if she’ll offer any input for the new Bond, she deflected and said:

“You know, I did it for 44 years and I loved every minute of it, but I’m getting up there now and there’s a lot of things I want to do… I’m doing a lot of other things. I have other movies I want to make and other stage shows.”

Villeneuve is currently in production on “Dune: Part Three” and that film is expected to keep him busy well into next year, so any creative decisions regarding Bond (ie. casting) aren’t expected for some time.

Earlier this week Sydney Sweeney was rumored to be up for the next Bond girl in the British press, a report that was quickly shot down the following day by TMZ.
