Though the first print and online reviews for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” don’t go online until Wednesday morning U.S. time, the first social media reactions to the film have started trickling in following the film’s premiere in Los Angeles.
The reaction has been kind of what was expected from a premiere, gushing from celebrities and hardcore fans. Several film critics and reporters though have managed to eschew textual discombobulation and ejaculation in favor of coherent thought out tweets that don’t sound like PR speak.
Better than all the prequels, weaker than all the original trilogy is a common reaction, the question we really want to know is which one is it closer too? Here’s just a sampling so far, more will be added as they come in. NONE of these or new ones that will be added later will contain spoilers of any kind:
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is ok. I know it’s poetry, I know it rhymes, but does every line have to rhyme with the last poem?

THE FORCE AWAKENS proves JJ Abrams is an auteur: once again we have great characters, propulsive fun, sort of shitty, dumb story.

The Force Awakens is life. Finally, life, back in Star Wars. Warm characters that care for one another and make you care for them.

A familiar rhythm, with new players. Maybe too familiar, as some notes feel obligatory, perfunctory. But overall, magic.

VI > V > IV > VII > III > I > II

From comedy to costumes, fights to fx to overall feel, J.J. Abrams has created a thoroughly old-fashioned movie #StarWarsForceAwakens

The Force Awakens is soooo Star Wars, and Daisy Ridley is the business, and #StarWars

Among its many wonderful qualities, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS passes the Bechdel test.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is a strong, promising kickoff. As a standalone, I’d rank it #3 in the series.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoke to my every emotion. Most of them good, a few not, but overall it was an amazing, overwhelming experience

SW:TFA is fast, fast, fast…nicely performed…rich cinematography…MUCH better than the prequels & better than Jedi. Great movie-movie.
