Johnny Flynn (‘Stardust,” “Genius”) has been cast as Dickie Greenleaf opposite Andrew Scott’s Tom Ripley in the upcoming series based on Patricia Highsmith’s novels for Showtime.
Flynn will appear in a series regular role in the eight-episode first season which will be based on the novel “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” previously adapted for the screen in 1999 with Matt Damon as Ripley and Jude Law as Dickie.
In the first season, Ripley is a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to try to convince his vagabond son, Dickie Greenleaf (Flynn), who is living a comfortable, trust-funded ex-pat life in Italy, to return home.
Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder. Oscar-winner Steven Zaillian is attached to write the entire first season in addition to serving as an executive producer. Garrett Basch, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel will also executive produce.
