Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (“Midsommar,” “Black Widow”) is attached to star in the sci-fi courtroom drama “Dolly” for Apple Studios.
Inspired by Elizabeth Bear’s short story, the film follows a robotic ‘companion doll’ that kills its owner and then shocks the world by claiming that she is not guilty and asking for a lawyer.
The film blends elements of both classic courtroom drama and sci-fi, sounding like a cousin to the award-winning “The Measure of a Man” episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”.
Vanessa Taylor (“The Shape of Water”) and Drew Pearce (“The Martian”) have been hired to pen the script but the project is not greenlit at this time. Pearce is also producing.
