FOX is reportedly moving forward with “The Flintstones” sequel spinoff series “Bedrock” with actress/filmmaker Elizabeth Banks both executive producing and leading the voice cast.
Banks will voice Pebbles, the now adult daughter of Fred and Wilma, in the project which has scored a pilot presentation a full two years after it emerged that the project was in development at the network.
Also starring in the voice cast are comedy veterans like Stephen Root as Fred, Amy Sedaris as Wilma, Nicole Byer as Betty, Joe Lo Truglio as Barney and Manny Jacinto as Bamm-Bamm in what is being dubbed a primetime animated adult comedy series.
“Bedrock” unfolds two decades after “The Flintstones” with Fred now on the brink of retirement and twenty-something Pebbles embarking on her own career.
As the Stone Age gives way to a shiny and enlightened new Bronze Age, the residents of Bedrock will find this evolution harder than a swing from Bamm-Bamm’s club.
Warner Bros. Animation and Fox Entertainment are behind the project with Max Handelman, Lon Zimmet, Lindsay Kerns and Sam Register also executive producing. Kerns and Zimmet will also write.
Produced by Hanna-Barbera, the original “The Flintstones” was the first primetime animated series in the United States – running on ABC from 1960 to 1966.
