“Flag” Creator Pens HBO’s “Booster Gold”

DC Comics

A TV series based on the DC Comics property “Booster Gold” is making serious progress at HBO Max.

David Jenkins, the creator of acclaimed queer pirate comedy “Our Flag Means Death” starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi, has been set to write the pilot for the series.

If the show goes to series, the plan is reportedly for Jenkins to serve as showrunner.

In the series, Booster Gold is a glory-seeking showboat from the future, staging high-publicity heroics through his knowledge of historical events and use of futuristic technology.

Glen Powell, Anthony Starr and Kumail Nanjiani have all been rumoured as starring in some incarnation or another of the property, rumours that never panned out with none of the three said to be in the running.

“Booster Gold” was announced back in 2023 as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU slate. A showrunner had been asked about the possibility but ultimately passed on the series.
