Netflix has released the first trailer for its period drama “Bridgerton,” the project marking the first effort yielded by the streamer’s deal with “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away with Murder” creator Shonda Rhimes and her Shondaland label.
Inspired by the Julia Quinn books, the story follows British teen Daphne as she prepares to enter London’s “competitive marriage market”. None of her prospects work out and her reputation is tarnished by the mysterious Lady Whistledown.
The Duke of Hastings agrees to enter a fake courtship with Daphne in order to help her save face. But, as these things go, the two start to develop a real attraction toward one another. At the heart of the show is the powerful Bridgerton family – eight close-knit siblings.
Phoebe Dynevor, Julie Andrews, Jonathan Bailey, Rege-Jean Page and Nicola Coughlan co-star in the eight-episode series which hits Netflix on Christmas Day.
