The first trailer has arrived for the WWI drama “1917,” filmmaker Sam Mendes’ first directorial effort since the Bond double “Skyfall” and “Spectre”.
Rising young actors George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman lead the cast alongside Colin Firth, Mark Strong Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden and Andrew Scott in the project which has been lensed by the one and only Roger Deakins (“Blade Runner 2049”), edited by Lee Smith (“Dunkirk”) and composed by Thomas Newman (“American Beauty”). Though not confirmed, there’s strong rumor this has been shot in a way to resemble one continuous take.
At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers – Blake’s own brother among them.
Universal Pictures will release the project on December 25th.
