First Trailer: Netflix’s “Ratched” Series

Netflix has released the trailer today for “Ratched,” the Sarah Paulson-led asylum drama series which serves as something of a prequel spin-off to Ken Kesey’s iconic 1962 novel “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and the famed film adaptation with Jack Nicholson.

Set in mid-20th century Northern California, Mildred Ratched (Paulson) lands a job at a psychiatric hospital as a nurse and this follows her first days navigating the mental healthcare system and her journey to head nurse. Paulson steps into the title role which Louise Fletcher played in the original film.

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan produce and Michael Douglas executive produces the series created by Evan Romansky and also starring Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo and Vincent D’Onofrio.

The clip, set to a downbeat take on the iconic “Big Spender” from “Sweet Charity,” follows on from the first photos released last week, and the series itself launches on the streamer on September 18th.
