Walt Disney Studios has released the first official trailer for the live-action and CG hybrid film “The One and Only Ivan” which will debut on Friday, August 14th exclusively on the Disney+ service.
Based on Katherine Applegate’s bestselling and Newbery Medal-winning book, Ivan is a 400-pound silverback gorilla who shares a communal habitat in a suburban shopping mall with Stella the elephant and Bob the dog.
He has few memories of the jungle where he was captured, but when a baby elephant named Ruby arrives, it touches something deep within him. Ruby is recently separated from her family in the wild, which causes him to question his life, where he comes from and where he ultimately wants to be.
The film boasts the voices of Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Danny DeVito, Brooklynn Prince, Chaka Khan, Ron Funches, Mike White and Phillipa Soo. Bryan Cranston and Ramon Rodriquez also star in the Thea Sharrock-directed film.
This marks the third film the studio has shifted to Disney+ following “Artemis Fowl” and “Hamilton”.
