Universal has officially announced “The Comeback King” as the title of the next Judd Apatow-directed comedy for the studio.
A first poster has also been released for the film, which will star Glen Powell and has reportedly just begun production ahead of a planned February 5th 2027 release.
The story follows “a country western star in free fall” but further plot specifics are under wraps. Cristin Milioti, Madelyn Cline, Stavros Halkias, and Li Jin Hao will co-star.
Apatow will direct the film, co-written by both Apatow and Powell. Both men will produce alongside Dan Cohen.
The film follows Apatow’s two-part HBO documentary project about Mel Brooks that he is co-directing with Michael Bonfiglio. He most recently directed 2022’s “The Bubble” for Netflix and 2020’s “The King of Staten Island” for cinemas.
Powell is currently in cinemas with “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and has “The Great Beyond” coming later this year. He most recently filmed the second season of Hulu’s “Chad Powers” and starred in “The Running Man” remake last year.
