Netflix, Skydance and Spyglass have released the first photos and a date announcement trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s “Spy Kids: Armageddon” – a reboot of his VFX-heavy family film franchise.
Zachary Levi (“Shazam”), Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”), Everly Carganilla (“The Afterparty”) and newcomer Connor Esterson play the new family at the heart of the film.
The story begins when the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology – leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.
Rodriguez co-writes with Racer Max as well as directs and produces the film. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Elizabeth Avellan and Don Granger produce.
The original films starred Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara in the lead roles and collectively grossed more than $550 million worldwide across four films from 2001 to 2011.
Rodriguez previously produced “Spy Kids: Mission Critical,” an animated series based on the films, for Netflix in 2018. That show ran for two seasons of ten episodes each.
“Spy Kids: Armageddon” hits Netflix September 22nd.
