Comedian turned filmmaker Jordan Peele made a splash with his directorial debut “Get Out” in 2017, a mix of psychological thriller and societal satire. The film went on to massive critical and commercial success along with earning four Oscar nominations and one win.
For his second film, “Us,” Peele tells EW that the aim of the new film was: “[something] more firmly in the horror genre but still held on to my love of movies that are twisted but fun.” Today the first photos from the film are out and come ahead of a new trailer which should launch soon after having been spotted in cinemas recently.
The story is set in the present day and follows Adelaide and Gabe Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke) as they take their kids to Adelaide’s old childhood beachside home in Northern California for the summer.
After a day at the beach with the Tyler family (led by Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker), Adelaide – who’s haunted by a lingering trauma from her past – becomes increasingly more paranoid that something bad will happen to her family. As night falls, the Wilsons see four figures holding hands and standing silently at the bottom of their driveway.
While further specifics are under wraps, Peele did let slip the film’s ‘monsters’ will be called ‘The Tethered’.
