First Photos: HBO Max’s “DMZ” Series

Following HBO Max giving the green light to go to series, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay has shared the first photos from the upcoming four-part live-action miniseries adaptation of the Vertigo comic “DMZ”.

The story takes place in a near-future where an American civil war has left Manhattan a demilitarized zone that is isolated from the rest of the world. The story follows a female medic who is desperately searching for her lost son in the DMZ while contending with gangs, militias, and warlords all the while saving lives along the way.

The shots offer a first look at Rosario Dawson’s Alma along with Benjamin Bratt and Freddy Miyares’ characters Parco Delgado and Skel respectively. DuVernay already shot the first episode and was waiting on the approval of HBO Max to continue which she now has.

Robert Patino (“Westworld,” “Sons of Anarchy”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
