Sony Pictures has released a first look at the next “Jumanji” with a photo of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan reprising their roles in the film which just began production.
The project marks the third and final film in the current iteration of the franchise, and the fourth overall (possibly fifth if spin-off “Zathura” is counted).
In 2017, Johnson, Black, Hart, and Gillan starred in “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle:. Instead of a board game, it revolved around a magical video game. The film became a smash hit, grossing over $962 million worldwide.
The success spawned the 2019 sequel “Jumanji: The Next Level” which grossed $801 million worldwide. Jake Kasdan, who directed those films, returns to helm from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
Also back are Nick Jonas as Jefferson ‘Seaplane’ McDonough, Danny DeVito as Edward ‘Eddie’ Gilpin, Lamorne Morris as Heater Repair Man, Marin Hinkle as Janice Gilpin, Bebe Neuwirth as Nora Shepherd, and Rhys Darby as Nigel Billingsley.
New cast members include Brittany O’Grady, Burn Gorman, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes. Others like Awkwafina, Alex Woff, Morgan Turner, Madison Iseman and Ser’Darius Blain are also expected back but haven’t been officially announced yet.
The new “Jumanji” is set to open in cinemas Christmas 2026.
