Tied in with the celebration of the game franchise’s ‘official day,’ acclaimed game developer Naughty Dog and premium cabler HBO have released the first official image from the upcoming TV series adaptation of “The Last of Us”.
The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie with the pair depicted, from behind, in the image offering an idea of what these characters will look like in live-action.
The series is currently in production in Calgary, Canada with the ten-episode run expected to be in production until well into next year ahead of a late 2022 debut. Each episode of “The Last of Us” is expected to cost more than $10 million to produce.
The first season will adapt the original 2013 PlayStation exclusive even as it will deviate in some episodes. Showrunner Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) has previously indicated that changes being made are designed to ‘expand’ or fill in some elements from the game’s story, not change the core of it.
