It’s official, the second part of the expanded remake of “Final Fantasy VII” is coming. Titled “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth,” it will arrive on PlayStation 5 next winter.
Square Enix has released the first trailer for the project below (be warned, there are spoilers for ‘Remake’). The new entry is expected to make better use of PlayStation 5’s unique hardware features.
It’s confirmed the overall remake will consist of three parts with April 2020’s “Final Fantasy VII Remake” being the first and next year’s ‘Rebirth’ being the second. Yoshinori Kitase, producer of ‘Rebirth,’ claims it is “proceeding at an astonishingly fast pace for such a large-scale HD title.”
Creative director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that ‘some development’ has already begun on the third title:
“A title of this scale in which everything is interconnected even before production began is truly rare. In fact, some development has already begun on the third title. I myself have started on the development and am working towards the completion of the series”.
Separate to this, it has been announced a modern remaster of 2007’s PSP title “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion” is in the works as a standalone title. Using the same engine as the FF7 Remake, it will be coming to all platforms this winter.
Also it has been confirmed that “Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade” is coming to Steam this week following a period of PC exclusivity on the Epic Games Store.
