Filming Wraps On “The Exorcist” Revival

Warner Bros. Pictures

Filming has officially wrapped on David Gordon Green’s “The Exorcist” revival – the first in a planned new trilogy of films from Blumhouse and Morgan Creek for Universal Pictures and Peacock.

Green, who helmed 2018’s “Halloween” revival and both its sequels, is directing the first film which will see actress Ellen Burstyn reprising her iconic role as Chris MacNeil fifty years after the original film debuted in 1973.

The new trilogy is a direct sequel to the original film and, unlike the new “Halloween” trilogy which flat out ignores the events of every prior “Halloween” sequel, this will not need to do so.

The previous “Exorcist” films were all released by Warner Bros. Pictures, but Universal acquired the rights for this trilogy in a massive deal reportedly to be worth over $400 million.

Oscar nominee Leslie Odom Jr. also stars in the lead role of a father of a possessed child whose desperation leads him to track down Chris McNeil. Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, and Jennifer Nettles also star.

Green co-writes the script with “Halloween” writers Scott Teems, Danny McBride, and Petter Sattler. Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson produce whilst Green, McBride, Couper Samuelson and Stephanie Allain executive produce. The film opens October 13th.
